Great White Shark - Practice #1

It is important to know the difference between it's and its.

Remember, it's is a contraction.  Contract means that something become smaller, or shorter.  So if you have two words and put them together, take out a letter, and add an apostrophe, the word becomes shorter.  So it contracts.

Examples:  it is >>  itis  >> it's  (you took out the second i and put an apostrophe in the place of the i).

The other its is the possessive form.  Its color.  Its smell is very bad.  The student could not see its shape clearly because he forgot his glasses.  Its is not a contraction.  There is no apostrophe in its.
