Instead of saying: The cup is on my desk. My grandmother gave me the cup for my birthday. The cup has a flower design on the cup. The cup is full of tea. If I drop the cup, the cup will break. That's too many "the cups!"
Instead we can use a pronoun in the place of "the cup." A pronoun is like a substitute noun. It makes the writing less boring. So, the new sentence looks like this: The cup is on my desk. My grandmother gave it to me for my birthday. It has a flower design on it. The cup is full of tea. If I drop it, then it will break.
See how it sounds much better when you use it, instead of the cup?
