The reason for this assignment is for you to review the difference between it's and its. It's is a contraction. It is makes it's. Also, it has makes it's. The possessive (ownership) form is its. This is different than what you have learned about possessive. Most of the time, we put an apostrophe in the word to show ownership. But not for its. Its would be used in this sentence: Its wheel spins fast on the road.
Directions: First try the contraction in the blank. See if it makes sense. If it doesn't then the answer is its. Write your answers on a piece of binder paper.
1) While the kids rode the train, they heard ______________ horn.
2) The lady said in a loud voice, "______________ a beautiful day!"
3) I recognize that bird. ____________ a blue jay!
4) ________ hot.
5) ____________a challenge to do homework on time. However, I always do.

Great White Shark - Practice #10
Sometimes, this blog will have math problems. Here is one word problem. Please read the word problem carefully. Write down important facts. Write out the number problem. Solve (solve means find the answer).
Two siblings (a boy and his sister), went on a field trip together to the great California orchards. Orchard means fields. It was summer time, so the trees in orchards were full of ripe peaches. The farmer told them that if they picked the peaches off of the trees for 8 hours, then they would get $9 per hour together. Also, they would get $13 for each bin they filled with peaches. A bin is a very large box. Before they started picking the peaches, both the boy and his sister decided to go to the store to get some things: a big sun hat - $5, sunscreen - $3, four water bottles - $2 each, and one bag of almonds - $6. They went back and worked for 8 hours. In those 8 hours, they filled 7 bins. How much money did they each earn?
Please divide your binder paper into 4 sections. Use your ruler to make nice straight lines. Use one section to show your work and answer the question.

Great White Shark - Practice #8
This assignment will help you learn how to use pronouns.
Instead of saying: The cup is on my desk. My grandmother gave me the cup for my birthday. The cup has a flower design on the cup. The cup is full of tea. If I drop the cup, the cup will break. That's too many "the cups!"
Instead we can use a pronoun in the place of "the cup." A pronoun is like a substitute noun. It makes the writing less boring. So, the new sentence looks like this: The cup is on my desk. My grandmother gave it to me for my birthday. It has a flower design on it. The cup is full of tea. If I drop it, then it will break.
See how it sounds much better when you use it, instead of the cup?
Directions:
Use this list of pronouns to complete the sentences. You DO write the whole sentence with the substitute pronoun.
1) Mrs. May walked down the street to catch the bus.
2) Mary and Paul are going to visit friends.
3) The turtles were glad to see Erin.
4) Lucy and I rode our bikes after school.
5) The soup was delicious!
6) Mr. Wheat played the drums for the class.
7) The book was very interesting.
8) Brian rode the horse.
9) Bonnie cleaned her room.
10) Chrissy and Susan danced in the talent show.
