Zebra #1

Happy Saturday 5th graders!  Here is the assignment for today.  If you asked for a holiday packet, please complete the work that was given to you.  Remember, all holiday work is optional.  However, it will make a difference if you make good use of your free time.  I will need ALL of the packets back when we return on December 2.

SWBAT (Student will be able to) understand the difference between FACT and OPINION.

LESSON:  Facts are true and cannot be changed.  Facts usually involve numbers.  Example:  It is 2.7 miles from Sally's house to the school.  This is a FACT.

Opinions give information that can be different from person to person.  Example:  It is very hard to wake up early during the winter months.  That may be true for some people, but not all.  So, this statement is an OPINION.

Directions:

Which of these statements are FACTS or OPINIONS?  Write out the sentences, and put a F for fact, O for opinion.

1)  He needs a haircut badly.

2)  Africa is a continent.

3)  Our classroom is the best in the entire school.

4)  Four quarters equals a dollar.

5)  There are 120 tissues in that unopened box.

6)  Dogs are great pets.

7)  That boy is my brother.

8)  Ice cream is delicious!

9)  Apples are a healthy choice.

10)  If you drink water, you will never get sick.

Congratulations!  You just completed your first Zebra blog assignment.  If you fall behind, try to catch up.  You will find that there will be plenty of time for rest when you are finished.
