This is a comprehension strategy assignmnet. There is a math assignment after it. Please do these assignments in order. Thanks.
Directions:
1) One of your assignments in your planner was to read two pages in the book about Lassie the dog. If you have not done that, please make sure you do it today. It is important for you to read a lot now and this summer to be a strong 4th grade reader.
2) When you are done reading those pages, please go back and write down the words that you don't understand. It does not matter how many words you write down.
3) Look for each of those words in your big dictionary, and write down the best definition. If you can't find it in your big dictionary, then try your pocket dictionary.
4) Re-read the first two pages and when you get to the words that you wrote down, check the definition and then try to understand the sentence.
Probability:
1) What is the best estimate of 432 + 397 + 111? Remember to round the numbers in the problem, THEN figure out the answer.
2) If Ms. Bhopla left her house to take Sophie for a walk at 9:30 a.m. and got back at 1:15 p.m., how long were they gone?
3) What is the value of the 7 in each number: 120,795 27, 581 62, 174 and 761, 345
4) Draw a table that describes the following information:
The 4th graders' favorite school supplies are staplers, hole punchers, sticky note pads, and index cards. Here are the number of students that like the tools: 11, 13, 9, and 4.
